Government sources indicate that Enda Kenny will stay on as Taoiseach until at least 2018

According to a number of report this morning the current Taoiseach Enda Kenny has reportedly vowed to stay on as leader of the Fine Gael party until at least 2018.

The news comes after a number of Government sources confirmed that Mr Kenny has no intention of stepping down anytime soon. There was widespread uncertainty throughout the summer that Mr Kenny would indeed in fact give up his political career in the future after his leadership was questioned by a number of Fine Gael backbenchers.

Although it now seems that the persistent speculation regarding his future has led to Mr Kenny taking a hardened approach to his political role.

It is believed that Mr Kenny wishes to lead Ireland through some potential upcoming difficulties including the fallout from Brexit and Donald Trump’s presidential reign.
