Government to introduce new laws that will see dangerous sex offenders electronically tagged upon their release from prison

Dangerous sex offenders released from prison will be closely monitored under new laws the Government has confirmed.

Under the new laws which are being fast tracked through the Oireachtas, violent sex offenders including rapists and paedophiles will be electronically tagged upon their release from prison.

The new laws which have received strong backing from the Communications Minister Dennis Naughten will also see parents being allowed to check whether or not their child’s teacher or instructor has previous a sexual crime conviction.

Speaking about the new laws Minister Naughten said the new rules will go along way to improving Ireland’s outdated sex offenders register.

It is thought the new laws which will include further monitoring of foreign sex offenders entering the country, will be brought in after the UK government amended it’s law to closely monitor dangerous sex predators.
