Government to introduce new scheme that will crackdown on TV licence fee evaders

The Government could soon be set to introduce a new scheme that will catch those unwilling to pay their TV licence.

It is understood the new move will see TV providers such as Sky and Virgin Media handing over their customers details to An Post.

According to a recent report it is believed one in seven Irish people are currently not paying their TV licence, which is allegedly costing the state in the region of €100,000 a day in lost revenue.

Meanwhile the Communications Minister Denis Naughten has promised an urgent crackdown on TV licence evasion.
