Government to outline tax cuts and spending increases in its ‘Spring Statement’

Minister-Brendan-Howlin-11

Finance Minister Michael Noonan and Public Expenditure Minister Brendan Howlin will today outline Government plans for €1.5bn tax cuts and spending increases.

They are also expected to outline plans for 2017, and beyond, if the current Cabinet is re-elected, and will also announce plans to bring the unemployment rate to below 9% this year.

A zero increase in corporation tax, and the expectations of living standards to rise will also be announced.

Minister Howlin will likely receive Cabinet approval this morning to begin talks with public-sector unions in a bid to reverse pay and pension cuts imposed over the last seven years, with negotiations then expected to get underway in mid-May.
