The Garda Representative Association has called for the use of taser guns by uniformed officers.
In what is one of many recommendations made by the policing body, the GRA say all uniformed officers who are first responders to a major criminal incident should be armed with the guns.
Although the guns are currently used by armed units, the GRA say the guns would be beneficial to first responders.
The body which is holding its annual conference in Wexford, have also called for more adequate resources such as body cameras and more Garda training facilities.
It is expected the association will discuss improving a number of issues within the force over the coming days ahead, with key topics such as providing further specialist training and resources to be on the agenda.
