Great News: Minister for Health Simon Harris officially grants medicinal cannabis licence for little Ava Barry

There was some great news anounced in the past hour as the Minister for Health Simon Harris officially granted a licence for little Ava Barry to receive medicinal cannabis.

The news of the licence has been welcomed by Ava’s mother Vera Twomey who has been campaigning relentlessly to see the treatment introduced here not only for her daughter but others who are suffering from similar illnesses.

According to RTÉ News Minister Harris officially granted a licence after he held a number of discussions with Fianna Fáil leader Michael Martin who called on the Department of Health to issue the licence for people especially children who are suffering from drug resistant epilepsy.

Speaking about the decision Mr Harris said that he could not speak for all cases but he was more than happy to grant little Ava’s third application for a licence.

It is now hoped Little Ava who has a rare drug-resistant form of epilepsy called Dravet Syndrome, which can case up to 20 seizures a day,  will be allowed to receive treatment at home instead of travelling to Netherlands for treatment.
