Great news: Staff at Irish Rail suspend strike action after Labour Court issues pay recommendation

There was some good news for commuters in the past hour as union chiefs representing staff at Irish Rail have confirmed that the three remaining workplace stoppages have been called off.

It is understood the cancelation of the strikes come after the Labour Court issued a recommendation in regards to a pay increase for staff members this evening.

According to RTE News the scheduled industrial action has been suspended pending the result of a ballot which will be held by staff at the company.

It is believed union representatives will reconvene later this month to vote today on the 2.5% pay increase on offer.

The Labour Court say the pay increases will be payable on 1 December 2017, 2018 and 2019.

The court also recommended that staff get a once-off “goodwill” gesture voucher worth €500 for their recognition of service over the past decade.
