Great night for the Irish as Saoirse Ronan and Martin McDonagh win awards at the Golden Globes

It was good night for the Irish at The Golden Globes as both Saoirse Ronan and Martin McDonagh picked up awards.

Ronan who narrowly missed out on collecting the honour of best actress in a musical or comedy in recent years, managed to make third time lucky as she picked up the award for her role in Ladybird.

Meanwhile director-writer McDonagh picked up four awards including best motion picture for his movie Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.

Speaking whilst collecting her award, Ronan told the on looking crowd: “My mam’s on FaceTime over there on someone’s phone right now, so hi!”

“I just want to say how inspirational it’s been to be in this room,” she continued on a night when the stars took a stand against harassment in the entertainment industry.”

Ronan also took time to thank “all of the women who I love so much in my own life who support me every single day.”

Although the winning of the awards was welcomed by the two they more subdued as were many who attended the ceremony who voiced their support to the victims of the recent sexual assault scandals to hit Hollywood.
