Greece goes to the polls to vote in key referendum

The beleaguered Greek nation will today vote on a crucial referendum, and the very future of the country, and the eurozone in general, hangs in the balance.

Just over ten million people are registered to vote. Polling stations opened at 7am local time, and will close at 10pm tonight.

This is Greece’s first referendum in almost forty years.

The country’s population are deeply divided on the issue of whether or not to accept harsh economic conditions imposed by European lenders in return of further bailout money.

Some people have predicted that if the uncertainty continues after the summer months “there will be blood on the streets.”
