Grenfell Tower tragedy: UK will observe a minute’s silence on Monday as a mark of respect for the victims

The UK will fall silent at 11am on Monday morning as a mark of respect for the victims of the Grenfell Tower fire.

30 people are now confirmed to have died in the blaze, with a further 58 missing and presumed dead. Authorities say the number of fatalities is likely to rise, as parts of the building have not been fully searched yet.

Though the initial cause of the fire has not yet been officially determined, authorities say that external cladding added during a recent refurbishment of the building contributed to the rapid spread of the fire, which burned fiercely at temperatures above 1,000C.
