Growing concerns amongst those working in A&E departments across the country as latest figures show there are currently 409 patients waiting on trolleys

The current overcrowding crisis at th nations hospitals is showing no signs of slowing down as new figures published today have shown there are currently 409 people waiting on trolleys in accident and emergency departments and wards this afternoon.

According to figures published by INMO there are currently just over 400 people waiting on a bed at hospitals across the country.

The union say the worst affected hospital is the Limerick University Hospital, which currently has 50 patients waiting on trolleys.

They say Galway University Hospital is the second worst today with 35 patients currently waiting, whilst Waterford University Hospital is the third most affected with 30 patients currently waiting.

The latest figures has once again led on the organisation to call on both the HSE and the Department of Health to address the situation before it gets worse.

Although todays figures are not the highest ever recorded the INMO say they have growing concerns about the rise in numbers at this particular time of year and they fear the situation could quickly become unmanageable during the winter especially when more elderly patients are admitted to A&E departments across the country during the flu season.
