Harris: “New National Children’s Hospital will be built on time and within budget”

Minister Harris’s comments come after the Government officially approved the planning application for the new state of the art hospital this week.

The new hospital which will be the biggest ever build in the history of the state will cost on the region of €1bn once it is completed in 2021.

The new hospital which has drawn criticism from opposition TD’s over location and cost will be built on a site near St James’s Hospital and will combine the three biggest children’s hospitals into one state of the art complex.

After a long and arduous planning process that lasted 20 years Minister Harris said Mr Harris said he was extremely satisfied that the project is finally going ahead.

The health minister also defended the cost of the hospital saying it was not fair to say the cost of the hospital had “spiralled” as extra facilities were now being provided in addition to the basic hospital construction.
