The Minister for Health Simon Harris has said he is taking doctor recruitment very seriously following a decision by the High Court to dismiss a junior doctor from his duties.
According to RTE News the junior doctor was relieved of his duties at maternity hospital, after a judge at the High Court found that he lacked the basic training to fulfill the role.
It is understood that the case went to the High Court following a complaint from the Medical Council.
However following the decision, Mr Harris said that he takes the overall recruitment of hospital consultants very seriously.
Mr Harris who was speaking on RTE’s Six One News, said that he intended to speak to the HSE about the incident.
The Health Minister also said that although this incident was unfortunate, it did prove that the regulatory system here did indeed work.
He added of the 23,000 doctors registered in Ireland there has only been 350 complaints.
