Relatives to belonging to the 44 crew members on board an Argentinian navy stranded in the South Pacific have been told their loved ones have sadly died.

According to media reports in Argentina the relatives were told the devastating news on Thursday after the country’s navy revealed that all hopes of finding the crew are all but lost.

It is understood the navy all but confirmed the deaths after rescue teams detected an explosion during the search.

The submarine which has been missing for the past eight days has been the subject of a widescale rescue mission involving crews from both the Argentinian navy and crew members from other naval groups from around the world.

In a statement a spokesman for the Argentinian navy said the sounds  reported by rescue teams were consistent with that of an explosion,  however the navy could not confirm if the suspected explosion was connected to the missing sub.

Meanwhile in an understandable response family members of the missing crew have reacted angerly with many claiming the Argentinian Government are trying to cover the incident up by releasing as little information as possible.
