The sole-recovery so far of the helicopter nightmare in Co Mayo, Captain Dara Fitzpatrick has tragically passed away from her injuries in the crash at 1am.
The Rescue 116 was aiding another coast guard on a mission in the are when “out of nowhere” the helicopter went off radar and “disappeared”.
The three other crew members are still missing as the search continues with garda divers being called in to search the seas off the Mayo coast.
Irish Coast Guard chief has said that today is a “dark day” for Emergency services and the Coast Guard in Ireland.
