An eight month old baby girl has sadly been killed and 17 other people have been injured, after a car drove through a crowd of people on Copacabana beach in Rio de Janeiro on Friday.
Although the devastating incident had been officially ruled out as a terrorist attack it is understood the tragic death occurred after a man driving vehicle ploughed through the group of people at 8:30pm local time.
According to the Globo news network 17 people have been injured, with four of those people being left in condition, after the car crossed over a bicycle path and drove through the crowd who were sitting at tables outside a popular café in the world famous resort.
Police authorities confirmed that a 8 month old baby girl was tragically killed in the incident, they also confirmed that the child’s mother has been left in serious condition in hospital.
It is believed the tragic incident is being treated as a freak accident after police found epilepsy medication in the vehicle which belonged to the driver who was a 41 year old man.
Globo say the man informed police that he lost control of his car after suffered an epileptic seizure.
