The parents of Carter Cookson have sadly confirmed that their son who was born on St Stephen’s Day (Boxing Day) has passed away.

Carter came to the attentions of the British public and the world after his parents Chris and Sarah Cookson made an emotional appeal in order to help find their son a new heart.

Little Carter who was born prematurely on December 26th, needed a heart transplant in order to save his life after suffering heart problems following his birth.

However tragically in a Facebook post made on social media over the weekend, Carter’s mum said the following: “RIP Carter John Cookson. Today he could not fight anymore.”

“At 5.44pm (Saturday) our brave baby boy Carter John Cookson gained his angel wings and flew into his big brother’s arms.”

The post continued: “We are heartbroken… our two boys are in heaven without their Mammy and Daddy we feel so empty and our hearts will never recover.”

“No more pain baby boy, No more tubes… be free with your big brother and Granda… until we can all be together again. You have taken our hearts with you… we will never recover.”

The couple who tragically lost their first son Charlie in 2013 due to an undiagnosed condition when he was just two years old, set up the Charlie Cookson Foundation in order to help families with seriously ill children.
