Heavy snowfalls throughout the night greets northern counties with some 4cm of snow this morning




Many northern counties received some 4cm of snowfall overnight with a sharp frost this morning.

Met Eireann had issued their second highest weather warning as up to 3 inches of snow is expected to fall until midnight tonight.

Citizens are advised to stay indoors, as temperatures are set to plunge to -5C, and even -8C in certain areas.

An Orange Weather Warning still remains in place this moring for Connacht, Cavan, Monaghan, Donegal, Dublin, Kildare, Laois, Longford, Louth, Wicklow, Offaly, Westmeath, and Meath.

Snow showers are expected throughout the day and it will remain very cold, with daytime temperatures struggling to rise past 5C.
