Hero: Kildare family say they are forever indebted to good Samaritan who helped save their 8 week old baby from drowning in the River Liffey

A Co Kildare family have heaped great praise on a good Samaritan, who bravely rescued their eight-week-old baby from drowning in the River Liffey recently.

The emotional mum Kelly Butler who said she will be forever indebted to the woman who thankfully saved her little girl. It is understood the scary incident occurred on Monday afternoon when Ms Butler brought her baby daughter, along with her 2-year-old son and 4-year-old daughter, to Newbridge’s Linear Park.

Ms Butler who recently spoke about the terrifying moment, explained that as she and her children returned to the car, she thought her worst nightmares came to life after the buggy with her baby in it slipped down the nearby embankment and into the river, whilst she was attending to her 4 year old daughter.

A clearly panicked Mrs Butler who had realised what happened, said she rushed to enter the river fearing the worst, however as she searched drastically another woman heard her screams and thankfully helped her to bring her baby daughter to safety.

Meanwhile a grateful and relieved Annabelle’s father, John Butler, told Kfm: “A lady came to her assistance when she heard my wife’s screams,
“Thankfully she did because my wife would have struggled to get back out of the river, she handed the baby up to her and was also able to salvage the buggy which was submerged barr the handlebars.”
