There was good new for the Irish Defence Forces who are currently serving in the Mediterranean Sea as the Government have agreed to increase their pay.
The welcome news will now see serving officers receive an extra €15 a day. Speaking about the decision the defence forces say the move is greatly welcomed by their members as some were unable to make ends meet under the previous wage structure.
The pay increase was recently confirmed by the Minister for Defence Paul Kehoe who said an agreement had been reached to increase payments by €15 per day to those who served in Operation Pontus.
Since May 2015 six naval vessels have actively helped Italian authorities rescue thousands of migrants from the Mediterranean Sea.
