Thousands of would be holidaymakers could be halted in their tracks to getaway this summer, after a Junior Minister revealed that there is a major backlog at the country’s passport office.
According to James Lawless TD, the Junior Spokesperson on Science, Technology, Research and Development, the passport office at the Department of Foreign Affairs is currently dealing with a backlog of 50,000 passport applications.
Mr Lawless who revealed the delay via his Facebook page has advised those considering traveling abroad this Easter or summer to check their passport sooner rather than later.
The Junior TD also urged those planning to make a trip abroad to make sure they renew their passport online as the process is considerably quicker.
