Homeless charities call for more to be done as the ‘Beast from the East’ is set to plunge Ireland into bitter freezing conditions




A number of homeless charities have revealed they are growing deeply concerned for those sleeping rough across the country as temperatures are set to plummet in the coming days.

The cause for concern has once again been highlighted as the ‘Beast from the East’ is set to make its way to Ireland causing temperatures to drop as low as -10c.

Although homelessness is an every day concern for all the charities, they do say they have become increasingly concerned with the latest developments.

Many charities have once again issued a plea to the Government to review the situation as freezing cold temperatures could potentially lead to a number of unnecessary deaths if people are forced to sleep rough.

A large number of volunteers have requested that the government allocate the appropriate space in order to get many of the nations rough sleepers off the streets ahead of the bitterly cold conditions.

The resounding call which has been echoed by many Irish citizens has been made after a number of local charities have successfully managed to provide much needed shelter in preparation for the cold weather.

However even though their efforts have been appreciated, the nations leading charities say more is needed in order to get everyone off the streets in the coming days ahead.

The latest weather warnings has already prompted the Government to put together an action plan to deal with the crisis, with a number of cold weather initiatives being put in place in areas across the country including areas such as Dublin, Limerick, Cork and Galway.
