Gardai shut down a volunteers soup kitchen on Grafton Street last Thursday night at 11:45pm over “health and safety reasons” because they have no permit to give out food to homeless people.
Darren Bradley. who was giving out the free food. was told by gardai to move his van on Tuesday night because he had no tax.
But no such grace was given on Thursday – the gardai confiscated the van and the volunteers have been unable to give out the free food.
Bradley has said ““It’s not about permits or the van, it’s about the homeless getting food”, “we’re not going to give up”, “you don’t need a permit to give out free food”.
Many people only social media have commented that the gardai “have little to be doing stopping these people doing such good work over a permit or car tax.”
Another said “It’s absolutely ridiculous.”
