The former Tanaiste and politician Mary Harney has been given a new role today as she was made chancellor of University Limerick.
Ms Harney who retired from politcs in 2011 was also made chairperson of the university’s Governing Authority.
In an announcement made earlier today University Limerick said they were honoured to have Ms Harney in the role given her vast experience in many areas.
Meanwhile Ms Harney said she was more than happy to accept the honorary role which will run until 2022.
Ms Harney told reporters: “University Limerick is a responsive university that delivers research that has a real world impact.”
