The Long Island Rail Road train crashed at the Atlantic Terminal in Brooklyn, New York.
Photos from the scene show show glass panels and metal safety doors smashed in from the force of the impact.
Eye witnesses reported how the busy train failed to stop at the station and hit the bumper at the end of the track.
Emergency crew from the New York Fire Department were treating the wounded at the scene. There were no serious injuries.
The authority tweeted: “76 non life-threatening injuries reported at scene of LIRR train derailment, Atlantic Terminal Brooklyn.”
LIRR, which operates the train, tweeted after the incident: “Anticipate possible delays into and out of Atlantic Terminal this morning due to an incident at the terminal.”
