In a truly horrifying story a Japanese woman has confessed to killing four of her newborn babies two decades after the brutal murders were carried out.
The woman at the centre of the story that has rocked the world Mayumi Saito, 53, has shockingly admitted to killing her newborn babies because she could not afford to care for them.
Ms Saito who brutally murdered her newborns by drowning them in buckets of concrete between the years of 1992-1997, claims that she decided to hand herself in as she could not live with the guilt any longer.
According to Japanese media outlets Ms Saito turned herself in at Osaka police station earlier this week which led to police authorities to conduct a follow up enquiry.
Speaking about the case a police spokesperson said Ms Saito’s statement has sadly proven to be true as their investigation has led them to find human bones that are consistent with the size of a newborn baby at her condominium.
They added Ms Saito informed them that she carried out the horrendous crimes out of desperation as she was too poor to take care of them and had no one to turn to.
Ms Saito could now face a lengthy prison sentence as Japanese law is known to hand out tougher punishments once authorities gather all evidence that can be obtained during their investigations.
