A teenage girl has sadly died after she was bitten by a deadly snake in Nepal after she was disgracefully ordered to sleep in a hut during her period.
The girl’s horrifying death comes after her family ordered her to live and sleep in the hut in order to abide by an outdated tradition.
Police say the victim Tulasi Shahi, aged 18, sadly died after she was bitten by the snake whilst she was forcefully placed in isolation whilst undertaking the practice of ‘chhaupadi’.
The young woman’s enforced isolation is not uncommon in the country as young girls are often subjected to the practice which see them banished to animal sheds for the duration of their period as they are thought to be ‘impure’ or dirty.
