According to latest figures published The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation (INMO) there are currently 516 patients waiting on trolleys or wards across the country today.
The INMO say the University Hospital Galway is currently the worst affected with 47 patients waiting on bed.
Meanwhile Cork University Hospital is second on the list with 42 patients waiting, whilst South Tipperary General has 40 patients waiting on a bed.
The crisis is an alarm in sign for both the HSE and the Department of Health as the number of patients waiting in hospitals across the country is expected to rise in the coming months due to a predicted flu epidemic expected to hit the country this winter.
