HSE Director General Tony O’Brien’s position put into further question as Sinn Fein confirm they plan to submit a motion of no confidence

Tony O’Brien’s position as Director General of the HSE could be brought into further question next week as the Sinn Fein party have confirmed they will submit a motion of no confidence.

The motion which is expected to be submitted in the Dail next week, could potentially result in Mr O’Brien leaving his position earlier than previously expected.

Speaking about the motion Sinn Fein say Mr O’Brien’s position has become untenable and therefore the motion must be submitted.

The news of the motion of no confidence will come as blow to Mr O’Brien and the Department of Health as they hoped the current Director General would stay on his position until his current contract expires in July.

Mr O’Brien was also given overwhelming support from both the Taoiseach Leo Varadkar and the Minister for Health Simon Harris, to continue on in his position in order to determine the facts of the recent CervicalCheck scandal.
