The HSE have confirmed that almost €1m has been spent on cosmetic proceedures in the last nine years.
According to The Irish Sun newspaper, newly published figures released today the health authority said that demand for surgeries including face-lifts and brow-lifts also increased by 50% with a total of €146,985 spent on 37 proceedures.
The HSE say a total of €942,254 has been spent at public hospitals on surgeries since 2009.
However they do say that the proceedures were not performed at the request of the patient, but instead at the request of qualified plastic surgeons who carried the proceedures for medical purposes and not cosmetic reasons.
