Management at the Health Service Executive could soon face some stiff questioning after a new report has found the authority went over budget by €132 million in the first half of this year.
According to the HSE’s latest performance report the service ran up the hefty bill between the months of January to June.
The report states that approximately €33 million of that figure was shelled out as part of the early restoration of the Lansdowne Road Agreement.
Whilst a further €21 million was spent on income targets for acute hospitals.
The above figures which only accounts from April to June will have many in the Dáil questioning the authority’s spending process.
Earlier this year the authority came under immense pressure after a number of TDs including the Taoiseach Leo Varadkar issued a warning to management to tighten their purse strings as further overspending habits would not be tolerated.
