HSE underfire again after the service spends over €250,000 on magazine publication that is primarily catered for medical personnel

The HSE has yet again come in for strong criticism after it was revealed that the health service spent over €250,000 on a magazine publication that is primarily catered to keep medical personal staff informed on the latest news in Irish hospitals.

The massive outlay which comes to €251,791 in total has been heavily criticised by disability rights campaigners who say the money spent on the publication could be spent elsewhere.

The publication which reportedly prints over 20,000 copies on a regular basis, has spent the staggering sum on operating costs and wages to staff which include a number of high earning editors during the period of 2015-2016.

Many campaigners have called for the publication to be scrapped in the wake of the recent release of its operating costs, they also say the massive outlay is completely unjustified as the magazine does not provide a relivant service.

However the HSE have since defended the magazines publication and costs claiming it is a necessary expenditure given that its feature publications provide a great service to medical personnel and it keeps them informed with key information within the health sector.
