Hundreds of migrants commence long walk from Budapest to Austria

The migrant situation in Budapest’s eastern railway station became critical yesterday, when large groups of riot police blocked trains full or refugees from departing the station.

Chaos ensued after it was suddenly announced that Hungary had cancelled all train services to Austria. Scores of migrants staged protests at the station and scuffles broke out everywhere.

Today, in defiance of the situation, hundreds of migrants have begun walking the long distance between Hungary and Austria, about 150 miles.

Amidst the international calls to alleviate the migrant crisis, Justice Minister Frances Fitzgerald announced earlier today that Ireland will accept 1,800 people.
