Hundreds of people in Liverpool have held a peaceful and quiet protest outside the city’s Alder Hey Children’s Hospital on Thursday night.

According to The Mirror newspaper, it is believed the protest which required the presence of Merseyside police officers came after the father of Little Alfie Evans, posted a video on social media calling for support via a peaceful and respectful protest.

It is reported that the distraught father Tom Evans, requested the support of the public after he displayed a letter showing little Alfie’s followers that he and his mother had the legal right to withdraw little Alfie from the hospital.

Although Merseyside police were called in to monitor the crowd, it is believed there were no reports of any major disturbances outside the hospital.

The unusual scenes came less than 24 hours after little Alfie’s parents Tom Evans and Kate James, lost their High Court appeal to overturn a recent ruling that requested that Alfie’s life support machine be switched off.

It is understood that both parents wanted to transfer their 23 month old son who has an undiagnosed degenerative brain condition, to a Vatican linked hospital in Rome.

However their heartfelt plea was subsequently denied by the British High Court on Wednesday as the presiding judge upheld the original judgement citing that it was in the best interest of the seriously ill child given the recent medical opinion of his doctors.
