Hunter in critical condition after a bear he shot landed on top of him

A hunter in the US state of Alaska is currently in critical condition in hospital with severe injuries after a bear he shot landed on top of him.

The man who has been named as William McCormick, 28, was left in critical condition after he sustained a number serious injuries following the incident which occurred at Lake Carter.

According to reports in the US, it is believed that McCormack suffered the severe injuries after the fully grown bear hit him causing them both to tumble down a steep slope overlooking the lake.

Authorities investigating the incident say Mr McCormick also hit his head off a displaced rock during the fall.

The injured solider was quickly taken by helicopter to a hospital in Anchorage.

Although it is not yet known whether or not the bear survived, it is understood that Mr McCormack was hunting with another solider Zachary Tennyson, 19, at the time of the incident.

Police say Mr Tennyson was uninjured in the incident.
