Hurricane Ophelia: Wind surfers consider formal complaints against emergency services for “rescuing them” against their will

Members or the Liberal team spoke to various people in Drogheda this morning who confirmed to them that two men rescued yesterday in the Clogherhead area of the county by emergency personnel are considering formally complaining that they were stopped in their activities.

The men, one of whom is said to be from Termonfeckin and in his late 20s are said to be “very experienced” surfers who were “not harming anyone but just enjoying the waves”.

Emergency personnel were deployed to the north east when the two were spotted by locals and who the Liberal understands believed the men were in trouble, thankfully they weren’t.

The major problem is the lack of respect the men had for the lives of the personnel who put themselves in harm’s way to rescue them – regardless of whether they wanted it or not.

It’s understood that no official complaint has been made yet but that at least one of them men has planned on doing so.

What’s your thoughts on people going into the water during such extreme weather?
