Leading human rights activist and singer Bob Geldof has said he is sick of world leaders and their actions during a recent spearhead at the One Young World Summit in Bogota, Colombia.
The former Boomtown Rats singer who is no stranger to controversy given his outbursts in the past said he was more than tired of established leaders such as Donald Trump, Vladimir Putin, Xi Jinping and Aung San Kuu Kyi.
Geldof who was attending the conference this week with the former UN secretory General Kofi Annan and Nobel Peace prize winner Muhammad Yunnus, for the onlooking crowd that he was “fed up with this world, I’m not tired of it, I’m just sick of it. I’m sick of what has happened to us in the 12 months since we last gathered in Ottawa [the last One Young World Summit].”
“I am just sick of it.”
The singer who is well known for his humanitarian aid efforts over the past 35 years also took a swipe Nobel laureate Aung San Suu Kyi. Kyi who won the Nobel Peace Prize back in 1991 has been subjected to criticism by activists across the globe in recent years given the vast atrocities which have seen thousands of Rohingya Muslims in the state of Burma being forced to flee their homeland.
Addressing the forum Geldof personally attacked Kyi by saying: “I am sick that on this stage are some of the greatest people who have fought for justice, peace, and equality in our world.”
“One of the (Nobel Peace Laureates) in Myanmar insults them–insults them all. (The person) who took the greatest prize that humans can give to another… becomes one of the great ethnic cleansers of our planet. This is a disgrace.”
However the outspoken Irishman’s rant didn’t end there as he quickly turned his attentions to other leaders such as Trump and Putin saying: “I am sick of these leaders. I am sick of Putin, I’m sick of Xi Jinping, I’m sick of Trump, I am sick of Erdogan. I loathe these people. I despise these people. How dare they behave in the manner they behave? How dare they?.”
