It is D day for the Taoiseach Enda Kenny today as it is widely expected that the Fine Gael leader and current Taoiseach will announce a timeframe for his impending resignation.
Mr Kenny who is hotly tipped to step aside later this year confirmed a few weeks ago that he will discuss his future at today’s meeting with his fellow Fine Gael colleagues.
However the Taoiseach has seemingly given little away in the lead up today’s expected announcement as he refused to answer questions put forward to him by reporters in Merrion Square last night.
The Taoiseach who has been urged to step down by current and former Fine Gael TDs seemed more content than ever about his future after he calmly quashed any questions thrown at him by telling reporters ‘now now’.
Mr Kenny also seemed unfazed about revealing his future plans today as he happily waved and thanked reporters as he walked through Dublin last night, he even claimed that he ‘looked forward to everyday’ after a reporter asked him was he looking forward to tomorrow.
Although the Taoiseach is not going to give his official departure date later this afternoon it is expected that the Fine Gael leader will trigger the leadership debate which will see a number of candidates including Simon Coventry and Leo Varadkar throw their hat into the ring to become his overall successor.
