Pope Francis has celebrated St George’s Day by ordering thousands of ice creams for Rome’s poorest people.
The Pope who is known to carry out acts of goodwill on special occasions, granted the handing out of ice creams in the hot Italian weather as he wanted to celebrate his name sake St George.
The handing out of the ice creams was confirmed when the Vatican released the following statement:”Pope Francis, (Jorge George Mario Bergoglio), wants to celebrate Saint George’s Day, with the most needy and the homeless of Rome.”
“Three thousand ice-creams will therefore be distributed to those who are welcomed every day by soup kitchens and shelters.”
It is not the first time the Pope has carried out gestures of goodwill as the pontiff previously handed out sleeping bags, food items along with many other necessities to the city’s homeless over the past number of years.
