Impact Trade Union say JobBridge scheme has “completely run its course and must be dissolved”

The Impact Trade Union believes that the time to dissolve the much troubled JobBridge scheme is now, the union made the announcement after they revealed new proposals for new internships to help those in need of work.

The organisation believes that the scheme has been of benefit to some people, but they say they are deeply concerned about the fact that currently there are only over 8,000 positions advertised through the scheme even though the economy has seen a sharp upturn. Impact organiser Joe O’Connor says the JobBridge scheme has completely run its course.

Mr O’Connor said: “We’re seeking for the JobBridge scheme to be dissolved and for us to move on towards a new range of internship programmes which are fit for purpose, which are properly regulated and defend against the displacement of paid work and driving down wages and conditions within the economy. “We feel that there have been significant concerns around the overuse and misuse of the JobBridge scheme, and while it may have served some purposes, now is time to move on.”
