Incredibly brave: Katie Healy recounts her traumatic experience of being caught up in the Paris Terrorist Attacks

In what can only be described as a tremendously brave and emotionally-filled interview, Dundalk woman Katie Healy spoke candidly to Ray D’Arcy on his show last night about how herself and her boyfriend David Nolan were caught up right in the middle of the Paris Terrorist Attacks last week.

D’Arcy, not exactly the flavour of the month by many at the moment, managed to allow Katie speak pretty much uninterrupted as she recounted her footsteps of that tragic day.

She spoke about her can recall jokingly writing a Facebook status where she said “Friday the 13th, what can possibly go wrong?”.

Ironically, almost everything for the couple went wrong – other than getting away with their lives still intact.

Katie spoke about being in the theatre where the rock concert was being held and how a shooter ran in and started randomly shooting people. She went into detail as to how she saw people around her being shot and dying as she and David were doing their best to “play dead” in order to actually end up dead.

David managed to slam Katie onto the floor and somewhat shielded her from the gunfire. In the cross fire, David got badly shot in the foot, but somehow the coupe managed to find an Exit door and made their way out of the theatre onto the street.

There they met a French woman, who Katie called her “Guardian Angel” who brought them into a nearby apartment complex. There, they started wrapping on the doors where eventually a male doctor started to tend to David.

He then drove the couple to a hospital where they eventually were treated. David will make a full recovery, but both himself and Katie are getting professional help to get over the tragedy.

Katie thanked both her “Guardian Angels” and said that the French people couldn’t do more to help the Irish couple. She finished by saying that she “was very grateful to be alive and happy that David will make a full recovery”. She said that they’ll live their lives so that the others that died in that theatre won’t have died in vain.
