Ireland crowned Six Nations Champions after France beat England in Paris

Ireland have been crowned Six Nations Champions after France beat England 22-16 in Paris.

The French win which followed Ireland’s bonus point victory over Scotland now means Joe Schmidt’s men cannot be caught with one game against England remaining.

Ireland who will now hope to complete the Grand Slam and the Triple Crown in Twickenham next Saturday, have a France to thank after they beat a poor England in the Stade de France this evening.

In a must win game for England, Eddie Jones’s men were far away from the bonus victory they needed to keep the championship alive.

France who were buoyant after their victory over Italy fully deserved their victory after they held firm to beat an English side who lacked any passion.

Although the game was a close affair throughout with both sides trading penalties in the first half to leave the score 9-9 at the break.

The decisive moment came when France were awarded a penalty try after Anthony Watson was punished for a high tackle on Fall.

England who looked to salvage something from the game did get back in it when Johnny May scored a late try to leave the score at 19-16.

However the game was effectively decided when Brauxis scored a 78 minute penalty to give the French a well deserved victory.

Ireland now go into next week’s game looking to cap off a perfect campaign by beating England in Twickenham.
