Ireland stroll to victory over Canada in their opening Rugby World Cup game

Ireland have gotten off to the perfect start in their Rugby World Cup campaign after defeating minnows Canada 50-7 at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff this afternoon.

The boys in green rarely looked challenged as they ran out as clear after scoring six tries in a convincing performance this afternoon. Four of the tries came in the first half from Henderson (25), Sexton (28), Kearney (35),whilst the remaining three came in the second half from Cronin (66), Kearney (73), Payne (76). Canada’s sole response came late on as Ireland made a fairly uncommon error made by Dave Kearney which allowed van der Merwe to run over the line for the Canadians.

With much tougher tests to come the result provides a perfect spring board for Ireland to hopefully go on and progress through the pool stages
