Ireland will take in a further 25 refugees as part of a deal to rescue 234 migrants off the coast of Malta.

In an announcement this evening the Government confirmed that they along with several other countries will take in the migrants who were left stranded onboard the MV Lifeline in the Mediterranean Sea this week.

It is understood the rescue ship will now dock in Malta after Ireland along with other EU countries agreed to take in the refugees.
