Ireland’s hopes of hosting the 2023 Rugby World Cup end in disappointment, as France wins hands down

Ireland’s aspirations of hosting the 2023 Rugby World Cup -and the €4m spent in the bid- have gone up in smoke, as France has been chosen to host the tournament instead.

Ireland’s bid was eliminated during the first round of voting, receiving just 8 votes. France received 18, and South Africa 13.

France was declared the eventual winner, after claiming 24 votes.
