The Irish accent is the most attractive, according to a survey by polling company YouGov. The ‘southern Irish’ accent was voted the best in Britain and Ireland, beating ‘received pronounciation’ English, also known as BBC English.
The Irish accent has often topped polls of sexiest accents, but has been in fierce competition with the Queen’s English thanks to the fame of actors like Benedict Cumberbatch. But Irish has stormed back into first place, beating the Welsh into third place.
Northern Irish voices divided public opinion while those in Birmingham now know that they have the least attractive accent in Britain. Of course, a poll of this kind is not very scientific but some companies have been known to hire people with particularly pleasing accents to man their phones.
