If Britain were to left the European Union, the economic toll for Ireland could top €3bn per year, some experts have postulated today.
A report issued by the Economic and Social Research Institute (ESRI) states that the so-called “Brexit” could have a serious economic impact on Ireland. An overall trade reduction between us and the UK of about 20pc has been predicted, with a total cost of about €3bn a year.
Brexit could also mean higher energy costs for Ireland, due to the expenditure incurred in having to build a new interconnecter with mainland Europe.
