Irish Government stands by Spain by stating it will not support Catalonia’s independence declaration




The Irish Government has once again pledged its support to the Spanish Government this weekend by stating that it does not support Catalonia’s independence declaration.

In a statement issued by the Department of Foreign Affairs, the Irish government say they will not endorse the Catalonians people’s self declared independence as it defies the constitution of Spain.

The Department say although they hope for a peaceful resolution to the situation in the region, they cannot support the declaration which clearly violates the laws of Spain who our one of Ireland’s many allies.

Although the state have recently said it will not support any such referendum, it is thought the announcement comes ahead of a period of unrest within the region as many protests are expected to be held across Catalonia’s biggest city Barcelona over the coming days.

The department say all Irish tourists visiting the region should remain vigilant and prepare themselves for any sudden changes to their schedule.

It is expected that a number of foreign tourists could yet be tangled up in the unrest within the region as thousands of people are expected to take to the streets to voice their disapproval at the Spanish Government’s decision to ignore their pleas for independence.
