The Liberal has become aware of an impromptu email campaign being undertaken by the Irish public to voice support for the Egyptian governments detention of Muslim Brotherhood sympathizer Ibrahim Halawa.
The campaign began earlier this week after a significant number of media outlets in Ireland along with the Taoiseach and certain ministers expressed their dismay at the delay of the verdict in the trial of Ibrahim Halawa.
Those partaking in the campaign say they are fed up with the government and media giving special attention to this man, who could pose a threat to Ireland’s national security.
The Liberal has contacted the Egyptian Embassy for comment but they are yet to issue a statement.
