The Hollywood movie scene has been heavily dominated by comic book adaptions that have generated billions of dollars in revenue and has offered big breaks to some lesser known stars of the big screen.

Well if latest rumours and bookmakers are to be believed an Irishman could be next in line to catch a big break by landing one of the biggest superhero roles of all.

According to a number of reports bookmakers both here and in the UK have heavily backed Drogheda native Colin O’Donoghue to take the role of DC Comic’s Superman in wake of Henry Cavill’s impending departure from the franchise.

It is believed that O’Donoghue who is best known for his role as Captain Hook on ABC’s Once Upon A Time, has emerged as a front runner for the role should Cavill decide to leave.

The backing comes after reports in the US state that Cavill could be replaced as the Man of Steel after he refused to appear as the character in the upcoming Shazam movie.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Cavill decided to turn the cameo appearance due to scheduling reasons. It is believed that Cavill’s decision has not gone down well with chiefs at Warner Brothers who produce the DC Universe films and its spin-off TV series.

Cavill’s decision has now reportedly left the role open for a potential re-boot and with that the Irishman has been placed at 3/1 joint favourite with fellow actor Michael B Jordan.
